How is a Breast Lift Procedure Performed?

When getting a breast augmentation with a lift, the nipple is removed and then replaced at a higher, more central place. The nipple size will also be corrected, if desired. The incision placement will be around the nipple with a line going down the center of the breast, and is commonly described as a “lollipop scar.” For severe sagging, it will also be necessary to make an incision underneath the breasts. What Can I Expect During Recovery From a Breast Lift?

After a breast lift patients will be sent home in a sports bra lined with gauze. Patients should expect drainage for 4 to 7 days following surgery, at which time it will be necessary for a follow up visit when the doctor will remove the drains. Strenuous activity is forbidden for a month following the surgery. It is mandatory for patients to wear a supportive underwire bra for an entire month, day and night, following the procedure. To prevent the recurrence of sagging, patients are encouraged to continue wearing a supportive bra as frequently as possible. Scars generally fade in about one year.
